Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Kampala, Uganda
- Upon arrival at Entebbe International Airport, you will be warmly received by our Trek Safaris representative and transferred to Green Haven Airbnb in Kampala for a relaxed evening.
- Overnight: Green Haven Airbnb, Kampala
Day 2: Kampala – Nyakalengija – Nyabitaba Camp
- AAfter an early breakfast, depart Kampala for Kasese.
- Upon arrival at Nyakalengija, begin your Rwenzori trek with guides and porters. The trail leads through farmlands and montane forest along the Mubuku River before ascending to Nyabitaba Hut. (Trek Duration: 6 – 7 hours)
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Day 3:Nyabitaba – John Matte Camp (3505m)
- Descend to the Kurt Shafer Bridge at the confluence of Mubuku and Bujuku rivers. The trail then ascends through bamboo forest and mossy rocks, with views of Mount Stanley and Mount Speke before entering the giant heather zone. (Trek Duration: 7 – 8 hours)
- Overnight: John Matte Hut
Day 4: John Matte – Bujuku Camp (3962m)
- Cross the Bujuku River and enter the famous Lower Bigo Bog, hopping tussocks through giant lobelias. Continue to Upper Bigo Bog, then approach Bujuku Lake surrounded by dramatic peaks. (Trek Duration: 4 – 5 hours)
- Overnight: Bujuku Hut
Day 5: Bujuku – Elena Camp (4541m)
- Climb steeply from Bujuku through Groundsel Gully to Elena Hut, perched below Mount Stanley. This is the staging point for the Margherita Peak summit. (Trek Duration: 5 – 6 hours)
- Overnight: Elena Hut
Day 6:Elena Hut – Margherita Peak (5109m) – Kitandara Camp (4430m)
- An early start for the summit attempt.
- Traverse glaciers and the Stanley Plateau to reach Margherita Peak, the highest point in the Rwenzoris.
- Descend to Elena Hut for lunch, then continue down via Scott-Elliot Pass with breathtaking views of Bujuku Lake and Mount Speke before reaching Kitandara Campor for photos and souvenir shopping.
- Summit Duration: 4 – 5 hours up, 2 – 3 hours down
- Descent to Kitandara: 3 – 4 hours
- Overnight: Kitandara Hut
Day 7:Kitandara – Guy Yeoman Camp (3261m)
- Climb from Kitandara to Freshfield Pass (4282m), enjoying panoramic views into Congo and towards Mount Stanley. Descend along mossy alpine terrain and past the historic Bujongolo Rock Shelter before reaching Guy Yeoman Hut.
- Trek Duration: 6 – 7 hours
- Overnight: Guy Yeoman Hut
Day 8:Guy Yeoman – Nyabitaba – Nyakalengija – Kampala
- Descend via cliffs of Kichuchu, bamboo forest, and Mubuku River crossings before reaching Nyabitaba. Continue down to Nyakalengija, completing the circuit.
- Travel back to Kampala for rest at Green Haven Airbnb.
- Duration: 7 – 8 hours
- Overnight: Green Haven Airbnb, Kampala
